New Pictures!!
One of my neighbors took some gorgeous pictures of my paradise!! I just had to share them with you!! Of course, the weather has been spectacular down here over the 4th of July. There are no words at how lucky I feel to live here!! - and you can, too, if you purchase our lovely 17 acres, two of which are right on Mashpee-Wakeby Lake.

Wakeby Lake on Front Page of Mashpee Enterprise
Well,
The Mashpee Enterprise is taking note of my beautiful lake - it has put two fishermen on its front page!! The color photograph is gorgeous - it is pure heaven there!! The issue is Friday, April 24, 2015.
Wakeby Lake is part of Mashpee-Wakeby Lake. It is on the Sandwich side, while Mashpee Lake is on the Mashpee side and they are connected by a channel. And the channel is where my heavenly 17 acres is located.
You cannot imagine a more wonderful spot - and two acres are right on the water!! As you can imagine, I love living there all year round - and you will, too, when you buy our 17 acres for your family compound.
Price: $5 million - well worth all the happiness you will find in this glorious wooded area, totally private yet totally accessible to Boston and to all the amenities on Cape Cod.

Barney Frank At The JFK Library
Well, again I found out how terrific living in Mashpee is - because I was able to get easily to the JFK Library on Monday night to see the great Congressman Barney Frank. The place was packed!! And I was able to get a front row seat.
Barney was his usual self - talking with Chris Hughes, the interviewer, about gay and lesbian issues; Obama and Obamacare; Iran and a host of other issues. Just a terrific time because Barney always has an interesting opinion.
I was able to ask him two questions: his thoughts on Obama and his thoughts on Obamacare. He likes both - just wishes that Obama had not been so bipartisan when he first got elected in 2009 because the Republicans are doing everything to obstruct him.
Barney was at the Library to promote his new book. And Chris Hughes is one of the founders of Facebook and now the owner of The New Republic.
So, if you want to have the best of both worlds - be in paradise on Mashpee-Wakeby Lake, yet have access to all kinds of wonderful events in Boston, then call me about our seventeen acres. You will be so happy that you did!!
Unfortunately, I have found out that Frank is a troll - pure and simple. He was always weird, but I thought he had the people's interests at heart. Frank now looks debauched; he sits on a bank board; and he is with HRC. What is even worse is that he is so hateful about the great Bernie. Total jealousy, I am sure. Frank wishes he were running for president and succeeding the way Bernie is.

Edward M. Kennedy Institute Dedication
It has definitely been awhile since I have written about Mashpee - my paradise on Cape Cod. Well, now I am going to write about an epic event that I attended yesterday at the new Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the Senate. This was the dedication of that gorgeous building with many, many dignitaries coming to pay their respects to the Lion of the Senate. And what makes Mashpee so great is that it is close enough to the Institute so that I could attend. Totally fantastic!!
I was able to go through the great kindness of the woman who ran Senator Kennedy's Boston office for fifty years. She and I had been in touch for about eight years and she was able to get me a ticket to this glorious event. Of course, I was exhausted by the end of the day because to get there for the shuttle buses that would take us to the event, I had to get up at 5:00 a.m so that I could leave by 6:00 a.m, to arrive no later than 8:00 a.m. Quite a task, but I did it.
To say that getting the shuttles was an adventure is an understatement because I did not know that I was supposed to get a yellow wristlet at Bayside parking area. Therefore, I got on a bus without it. As a result, I had to return to Bayside. I was so aggravated!! To say the least!! And the security was so tight - we changed buses a few times, even though we were credentialed!
But the upside was that I met so many great people. One was the caretaker of the Kennedy Hyannisport house, which is now part of the Institute. I showed her pictures of a fundraiser at the Compound in 2006 for Deval Patrick and she loved them. A great memory, that is for sure.
I cannot say enough how moving the day was for me and how wonderful the program was for all of us. My favorite was Vice President Joe Biden. (But then, of course, he is one of my favorites and I wish that he would run for President.) He took so much time out of his day to be with us and to talk so beautifully about Senator Kennedy, whom he obviously loved.
And when he dedicated the Senate Chamber - well, he was the greatest, that is all that I can say. Such a spectacular job of introducing the past and present senators, as well as the young people who spoke the words of past senators. Biden really made me feel his love for the place - it seems as if it is a sanctuary for him.
But that is not to say that I did not think the other speakers were not moving, too. I have never seen Senator Markey so impassioned. He comes from Malden where my mother and her family grew up and he knew my family. (My uncle was a city councillor there in the 1950's and knew President Kennedy when he was a senator at that time.) Senator Markey clearly loved Senator Ted Kennedy.
And I loved President Obama - I think he is the greatest - and when he said that he owed Senator Kennedy a lot - well, he said it with his whole heart. Just beautiful. The others were terrific, too, but the most lovely and gracious was Vickie Kennedy. Just so dear and I can see why Senator Kennedy was so proud of her. I watched her on OTR on Sunday and she was such a great representative of the Institute. Totally terrific.
And I do not want to leave out Brian Stokes Mitchell, the Boston Pops and the Children's Chorus - so perfect for Senator Kennedy.
The tent was terrific. The food was wonderful and the people that I met were so much fun! I was able to go to the Institute after the program and I loved it. I was amazed at how cozy the Senate chamber is - just as Biden had said. Unfortunately I forgot to see Senator Kennedy's office - I was so tired by then - but I shall go back to view it., And, of course, the food there was terrific, too.
So, Mashpee again made it possible for me to be part of a grand and glorious occasion. You can have the same kind of great times if you purchase our seventeen acres. Just the most perfect spot on Cape Cod!

Ellen In Medicaland at the Great Mashpee Public Library Local Authors Book Fair
Well, Guys,
It has been awhile since I have written in this blog about good, old Mashpee. And I have to tell you that yesterday made me so happy to be living in this great community because I participated at the great Mashpee Public Library Local Authors Book Fair. It was a total blast.
There were thirteen of us authors - all living on Cape Cod - and a couple of us who live in Mashpee. There were all kinds of topics being covered besides my wild and crazy medical memoir, Ellen In Medicaland:True Stories of How I Fell Down Medicine's Black Hole and Still Lived After All. There were at least four books about Cape Cod; one on combating drug and alcohol addiction; an author who has written four romance novels; and a woman who is a life coach and who is advising people how to become their best selves. And, an attorney, who used to be a ballet dancer, who has written a book about bloopers in estate planning. Just such an interesting and diverse group. That is for sure.
Needless to say, I talked and talked with everyone and found them all so fascinating. And, I was lucky to be able to talk to browsers who have all had terrible times with the health system. It made me so happy to be able to help them and to perhaps meet them as a follow-up to make sure they are doing OK. At least Ellen In Medicaland is accessible on Kindle so they have somewhere to go for help.
Plus Ellen In Medicaland is my wild and crazy ride through our insane health system so no one has to feel alone in dealing with it.
Finally, the refreshments were DELICIOUS. Nothing like being able to eat terrific food while you are happily talking about your book!!

The Great John Cleese Event At The JFK Library
Well, Guys,
It has been a horrible week in Boston. We lost the great Mayor Menino on October 30th and his funeral was this past Monday. There were no dry eyes for miles and miles in Massachusetts - none whatsoever, including mine.
And the Democrats lost badly in the mid-terms. The Republicans gained seven new seats in the Senate and have made it plain that they plan to make Obama's life miserable. Also, Coakley lost to Charlie Baker for the governor's seat. So there was more reason for tears on Tuesday night.
But last night God showed me that you have to hang in there because all was right in Ellen Kagan's world, that is for sure. I left Mashpee - and once again I saw how lucky I am to be so accessible to Boston - and went up to the JFK Library to a reception for the women candidates in November, 2014. They came from all six New England states.
Anyhow, the reception bored me so I went upstairs and saw a gazillion people standing in line. I asked a woman what this was for-- and it turned out that the Brookline Booksmith was sponsoring an event honoring the great John Cleese of Monty Python fame. OMG!! We talked for awhile and then she offered me a $60 ticket to see him - her friend was sick and could not come!! Can you believe it? It was just what the doctor ordered after this horrendous week.
The audience was young, hip and alive - just my type. John Cleese came in with the lovely Robin Young, his interviewer, to rapturous applause, including mine. He then proceeded to keep us delighted for the next 1 1/2 hours!! He has just written his book, So, Anyway - which for $60 you could get - and read some of it with Robin. He also talked of his experiences in the entertainment industry and at the end, many in the audience lined up at microphones to ask him questions.
He was so gracious - none of us wanted the evening to end. I am still so happy for having been there in such an unexpected way. Yes, God is so good - and I am so lucky to live in Mashpee and to be able to easily get to great events like these.
